As I wrote a few days ago, anti-mining protests in Peru have become deadly and involve large amounts of state repression throughout the month of June. They have continued into July with protests yesterday causing three protester deaths and the government declared a state of emergency in three provinces.
Protests happened in Cajamarca where the protests are organized primarily against proposed gold mining by U.S.-Based Newmont Mining Corporation.
Here are some YouTube videos posted from inside the protests and highlighting the police response. I’ll post clearer videos if any become available.
